Pest Control in Parkland Bay

Parkland Bay is a gated community of about 550 homes around a 178-acre lake, with a 16,000 square foot clubhouse. The homes are contemporary in style and range widely in size, and a lot of them have private pools and lanais facing the water.

Newer construction is tighter than older homes, but pests still find the gaps. And a big lake means a big mosquito season, along with the moths and midges that come to lanai lights at night and the spiders that follow them.

Lakefront living and bugs

If your lanai faces the lake, you've probably noticed bugs piling up on the screen after dark. Lights draw insects, and insects draw spiders. Brown widows like the corners of pool cages and the underside of outdoor furniture. See spider control for what to look for.

Mosquitoes come off the shoreline and from water around the house. Bromeliads in the landscaping are a common source. Our rainy season guide has a quick checklist.

New homes still get termites

Ask whether your house had a termite pretreatment during construction, what it was, and when any coverage ends. Your closing papers may say. Spring swarmers inside the house are worth a call. Read termite swarm season first if you're not sure what you saw.

  • Tell us the gate procedure when you call
  • Check pool cage screens for tears at the corners
  • Flush bromeliads weekly in the rainy season
