Parkland Pest Questions

These come up on the phone over and over. If yours isn't here, call and ask.

Questions and Answers

Are you the company that comes out?

No. This is a referral line. We hand your call to a Florida-licensed pest company that runs its own business in Parkland. They inspect, treat and set the price.

There are wings all over my windowsill. Is that termites?

It might be. Termites and flying ants both swarm in spring here. Termite swarmers have two pairs of wings about the same length and a thick waist. Save a few in a zip bag and read our termite swarm guide.

Do I need to tent my house?

Only some drywood termite jobs call for whole-house fumigation. Small, contained infestations can sometimes be spot treated. The inspector decides after finding where the pellets are coming from. See drywood termites and tenting.

Why do the ants keep coming back after I spray?

Ghost ants and white-footed ants run big colonies with lots of satellite nests. Spraying the trail kills the foragers you see and leaves the rest. Baits that foragers carry home usually work better. More on ant control.

The county sprays for mosquitoes. Why are they still in my yard?

Broward County runs its own mosquito program, and you can reach it through 311. The mosquitoes biting you on the lanai often come from water on your own lot, like a bromeliad, a clogged gutter or a tarp. A yard visit finds those. See mosquito control.

Is it rats in the attic or something else?

Scratching at night in the attic of a Parkland home is very often a roof rat. They climb palms, fruit trees and power lines. Look for spindle shaped droppings about half an inch long. Rodent control covers the rest.

My St. Augustine grass has brown patches. Is that bugs?

Sometimes. Southern chinch bugs go after St. Augustinegrass, especially in full sun and dry spots. Brown grass alone doesn't prove it. Check the edge where brown meets green. Our lawn pest page explains how.

Can treatment work around kids and pets?

Ask the provider. Tell them who lives in the house, including pets and anyone with asthma. Labels say when treated areas are safe to use again, and a good tech will go over that with you before they start.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the pest, the size of the house and how far along the problem is. The provider gives the price after the inspection. We don't quote prices on this line.

Do you cover Coral Springs and Boca too?

Yes. We take calls from Coral Springs, Coconut Creek, Margate, Tamarac, Deerfield Beach and the Boca Raton side of the county line. See all service areas.
